Take your nylon trauma shear pouch and throw it away... and you can toss those crappy BS shears while you're at it.

The BMD SQUID TECHNICAL SHEAR SYSTEM will be the last emergency trauma shear holster you will ever buy.

We saw a problem in how PSDs, professional divers, medics and operators have been forced to continually use recreational gear for professional operations. Good enough - but not the best. We decided to change that. And we’re just getting started.

The BMD SQUID TECHNICAL SHEAR SYSTEM was designed specifically to address these problems in an efficient, executable and essential platform.

Finally a trauma shear holster system that can mount to anything, can be drawn and re-holstered easily with ONE HAND whether you’re a righty or a lefty – even in 5mm or hazmat gloves. No Velcro, no snap straps, no nonsense. Just a click.

BENEFIT FROM ALMOST TWO YEARS OF TESTING AND EVALUATION IN REAL WORLD PSD OPS.

  • Purpose built for BOTH above & below the waterline.

  • Access, deploy and re-holster your emergency cutting shears in seconds with just one hand.

  • Tough and durable Kydex design keeps your shears protected and secure - no straps, Velcro or buckles to get in the way of a quick deployment.

  • Large ambidextrous molded opening means effortlessly putting your shears away without looking or fumbling - even in heavy gloves.

  • When paired with the BMD DELTA STRAP there are virtually unlimited mounting options, so the BMD SQUID is at home on any dive, tactical or duty gear.

  • Designed to accept a huge range of mounts and clips to customize your carry options including the BLADETECH TEK-LOKs and MOLLE-LOKs. We named it the SQUID as the back mounting hole pattern reminded us of the feeding tentacles on a giant squid. Like a squid’s tentacles and suckers… once it’s on, it’s on!

  • The BMD SQUID will accept every 7.5” trauma shear on the market – including XShears.

  • Comes equipped with our rugged black Titanium-coated shears manufactured from premium 420 stainless steel. Built for cutting through tough material with a blunt tip to keep the diver/patient safe. They are autoclavable to 290 F. If taken care of, they will not rust. Just dry them off when cleaning your gear post dive.

  • Comes with the BMD DELTA STRAP.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can the Squid Shears cut through?

The Squid is designed to slice through heavy-duty materials like fishing line, rope, webbing, and even light metal wire—perfect for technical and rescue diving scenarios.

Will these shears rust in saltwater?

Nope. The Squid is made with marine-grade stainless steel and built specifically to resist corrosion, even after repeated saltwater exposure.

Can I mount this to my BCD or harness?

Yes! The included Kydex holster is compatible with MOLLE, belt loops, and most harness systems. Mount it where it’s most accessible for you.

Is the holster truly one-handed?

Yes. It’s engineered for fast, one-hand access and re-sheathing—so you can deploy or stow your shears without removing your gloves.

Do I need to maintain the blades?

A quick rinse in freshwater after each dive and occasional lubrication at the pivot point will keep them performing dive after dive.

Great tool!

I’ve been in the Fire service, EMS and military for nearly 28 years and diving for 30. This is by far the best system to draw and return shears to in zero vis.

Amazing Product

These dive shears impressed me right out of the box. They feel solid and well‑built, with the kind of sturdiness you want when you’re working in challenging conditions. One of my favorite features is the sheath: the shears click firmly into place, giving you unmistakable feedback when they’re secured or released. That audible and tactile “click” makes a huge difference when you’re wearing heavy gloves and working in a current.

The adjustable mounting system is a great touch and gives you plenty of flexibility for placement. In my case, the standard setup with the delta strap was all I needed—and honestly, I liked that strap so much I ended up ordering more. It’s comfortable, reliable, and keeps everything exactly where you want it.

This setup has worked so well for me that several other members of my dive team have decided to pick up the same shears.

Overall, these shears are a sturdy, dependable tool with smart design choices that make them easy to use in real‑world conditions. A great addition to any diver’s kit.

Nice mounting option. I’m not sure if they’re worth the price.

For $80 I feel these could be made in the USA. They’re just ok. The sheers feel cheap and are easily blemished.
