They say it showed the danger that Blackbeard brought combined with his alliance with the Devil. They say this was another technique used to instill fear into his enemies and to let them know just who was attacking them.
It's a good story but ‘ol Ed as badass as he was probably didn’t fly this flag himself. But that’s not the point. It’s what it represents.
